The latest visit to Ruddington by visitors from Grenay, our twin town in France, took place over the weekend.
From Thursday the 10th to Saturday the 12th of August fourteen youngsters aged from 12 to 16, accompanied by three youth workers, spent two full days with us. Activities included visits to the Framework Knitters’ Museum and Village Museum, as well as a trip to the Chinese Dinosaur Exhibition at Wollaton Hall and its satellite exhibition at Nottingham University. The Mayor of Grenay and his wife dropped in to see us on their way back to Grenay from Scotland and the whole group was photographed with the new village boundary sign on Clifton Lane. Everyone was clearly delighted to see Grenay highlighted in our new sign!
On separate nights our guests enjoyed a curry and a fish and chip supper, both culminating in competitive but friendly sports and games. The good weather meant both indoor and outdoor games were possible. The children themselves were very friendly, open and helpful – a credit to their home town.
At the conclusion of the trip our visitors were presented by ex-Chair of the Parish Council, Peter McGowan (right), with a framed copy of the photograph taken at the village sign – and each received a personal copy of the photograph.
